SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 139

COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Anna Koll for being named to the 2013 Louisiana Sports
Hall of Fame Induction Class.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Anna Koll for being named to the 2013 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame2
Induction Class.3
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana, was4
accepted in the state museum system in the 2003 Regular Legislative Session, setting the5
stage for Louisiana and the city of Natchitoches to collaborate with the Louisiana Sports6
Writers Association to develop a new museum; and7
WHEREAS, Anna Koll is one of nine members to be inducted during the grand8
opening of the twenty-three million dollar museum, which will display, for the first time,9
state of the art exhibits showcasing Louisiana's remarkable sports history and culture; and10
WHEREAS, Anna Koll is described as New Orleans' greatest all-around female11
athlete in the 1920s and 1930s by 	The Times-Picayune; and12
WHEREAS, she won the southern women's tennis championship twice, the13
Louisiana women's title numerous times, and state titles in Mississippi, Alabama, and14
Tennessee; and15
WHEREAS, she set the Southern Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) records in the16
eighty-meter high hurdles with thirteen point zero and the broad jump with fifteen-eleven,17
along with the fifty-yard dash and the one hundred and twenty yard hurdles; and18 SR NO. 139

WHEREAS, Ms. Koll was part of the New Orleans team which won the Southern1
AAU championship for four straight years from 1926-1929, winning one individual title; and2
WHEREAS, she helped the Wiltz gymnasium win the AAU indoor baseball title3
three straight years, leading the league in batting each season; and4
WHEREAS, she played on the Wiltz basketball team and made the all-state team for5
three consecutive years; and6
WHEREAS, even after her death in 1988 at the age of eighty-three, Anna Koll is still7
considered to be a Louisiana version of versatile female Olympian Babe Didrikson Zaharias.8
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana9
does hereby commend Anna Koll for being named to the 2013 Louisiana Sports Hall of10
Fame Induction Class.11
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the12
family of Anna Koll and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.13
