Expresses condolences upon the death of Roy Lee Marley Jr. A RESOLUTION1 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the2 death of Roy Lee Marley Jr.3 WHEREAS, it is with great sorrow that the members of the Senate of the Legislature4 of Louisiana have learned of the passing of Roy Lee Marley Jr., on May 25, 2013, at age5 seventy; and 6 WHEREAS, he was a native of Siler City, North Carolina, and a resident of Baton7 Rouge who received his Business Administration degree from Duke University in 1964; and8 WHEREAS, Roy attended Duke University for four years on athletic scholarships9 for football and baseball and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity; and 10 WHEREAS, he began his career with Exxon in Raleigh, North Carolina, in11 December 1964, in the Marketing Department as a sales representative and, over the next12 seventeen years, progressed through a number of marketing assignments throughout the13 South, Florida and Texas; and14 WHEREAS, in 1981, Roy joined the Public Affairs organization in New Orleans and15 had various assignments before becoming the Louisiana Government Affairs Manager for16 Exxon in 1986; and17 WHEREAS, he continued to lobby for Exxon from 1982 to 2001 during the18 SR NO. 141 SLS 13RS-2952 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 3 legislative sessions in Louisiana and several other states and served as a committee chair and1 on several committees for Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association; and2 WHEREAS, in addition, he served on committees for Louisiana Association of3 Business and Industry, Louisiana Chemical Association, and the Governors Energy Task4 Force; and5 WHEREAS, he retired from Exxon in 2001 after thirty-seven years of service; and6 WHEREAS, Roy was an excellent athlete and excelled in tennis and running, playing7 singles on a local and state level and was a member of Bocage Racquet Club; and8 WHEREAS, he enjoyed running every day and ran in local runs and in numerous9 marathons; and10 WHEREAS, he also enjoye d SCUBA diving with his wife, family and friends and11 was a former member of the City Club of Baton Rouge and the Tiger Athletic Foundation;12 and13 WHEREAS, Roy was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Rings n'14 Ivy Sunday School class; and15 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Lee Marley Sr. and Perry16 Craft Marley and is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Judy Canaday Marley; his17 daughter Sheri Marley Loy and her husband Stephen Loy; three grandsons, Tucker Hayes,18 Hayden Marley and Parker James; son Travis Lee Marley and his wife Melanie Lowe19 Marley; and grandchildren, Lillian Reese and Mason Lee; a brother, Danny Marley and20 sister-in-law Barbara Marley; and21 WHEREAS, Roy's greatest love was his family and grandchildren; and22 WHEREAS, those who knew Roy will remember him for his quick wit, sense of23 humor and laughter and his a genuine love of life. 24 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana25 does hereby express sincere condolences to the family of Roy Lee Marley Jr. on the occasion26 of his death.27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Judy28 Canaday Marley.29 30 SR NO. 141 SLS 13RS-2952 ORIGINAL Page 3 of 3 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Jerry J.
