SENATE. Designates the week of July 21-27, 2013, as Pretrial, Probation, and Parole

A RESOLUTION1
To designate the week of July 21-27, 2013, as Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision2
Week.3
WHEREAS, supervision of criminal offenders in the local community is an essential4
part of the criminal justice system; and5
WHEREAS, the probation and parole officers of the office of juvenile justice are6
responsible for supervising juvenile offenders in the local community; and7
WHEREAS, probation and parole officers uphold the law with dignity, protect our8
citizens from criminal activity, and fulfil a vital role to ensure the public safety of our9
citizens; and10
WHEREAS, probation and parole officers are trained professionals providing11
assistance and referrals where needed and other services necessary to assist offenders as they12
transition back into society as productive law-abiding citizens; and13
WHEREAS, the contributions of probation and parole officers are a significant factor14
in reducing recidivism among our juvenile offenders; and15
WHEREAS, probation and parole officers provide additional service, support, and16
protection to crime victims and their families; and17
WHEREAS, probation and parole officers are engaged in partnerships with local18 SR NO. 169

agencies and groups to promote crime prevention, intervention, and advocacy programs for1
offenders and have become a true force for positive change in the community as well as2
advocates for restorative justice.3
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana4
hereby designates the week of July 21-27, 2013, as Pretrial, Probation, and Parole5
Supervision Week and encourages all citizens to honor and recognize the achievements of6
probation and parole professionals in their respective communities.7
