Page 1 of 1 Regular Session, 2013 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 169 BY SENATOR RISER A RESOLUTION To designate the week of July 21-27, 2013, as Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week. WHEREAS, supervision of criminal offenders in the local community is an essential part of the criminal justice system; and WHEREAS, the probation and parole officers of the office of juvenile justice are responsible for supervising juvenile offenders in the local community; and WHEREAS, probation and parole officers uphold the law with dignity, protect our citizens from criminal activity, and fulfill a vital role to ensure the public safety of our citizens; and WHEREAS, probation and parole officers are trained professionals providing assistance and referrals where needed and other services necessary to assist offenders as they transition back into society as productive law-abiding citizens; and WHEREAS, the contributions of probation and parole officers are a significant factor in reducing recidivism among our juvenile offenders; and WHEREAS, probation and parole officers provide additional service, support, and protection to crime victims and their families; and WHEREAS, probation and parole officers are engaged in partnerships with local agencies and groups to promote crime prevention, intervention, and advocacy programs for offenders and have become a true force for positive change in the community as well as advocates for restorative justice. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana hereby designates the week of July 21-27, 2013, as Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week and encourages all citizens to honor and recognize the achievements of probation and parole professionals in their respective communities.
