Commends Dan Juneau for his years of service upon the occasion of his retirement from the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry. A RESOLUTION1 To commend Daniel L. Juneau for his years of service upon the occasion of his retirement2 as the president of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry.3 WHEREAS, as Dan Juneau prepares to retire from the Louisiana Association of4 Business and Industry, the 2013 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature will mark the5 final session wherein he serves as president of the organization; and6 WHEREAS, he merits a special commendation for his lifelong commitment to7 economic growth in Louisiana and his extensive service to the people and business8 community of Louisiana as president of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry;9 and10 WHEREAS, Dan Juneau has devoted the past forty years of his life to fighting for11 key reforms necessary to improve Louisiana's business climate and strengthen its economy;12 and13 WHEREAS, he was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, and grew up in Rapides Parish14 where he attended public schools and graduated from Menard Memorial High School and15 thereafter Louisiana State University in Alexandria; and16 WHEREAS, Dan Juneau received his bachelor of arts degree in liberal arts from the17 University of Louisiana in Lafayette and thereafter was an instructor at Rayne Catholic18 SR NO. 191 SLS 13RS-3508 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 4 Elementary School in Rayne, Louisiana; and1 WHEREAS, he was selected to serve as general manager of the Lafayette Chamber2 of Commerce in 1972, a position he held for 14 years, during which time he learned the3 challenges facing businesses at the local level; and 4 WHEREAS, during this same period, Dan Juneau also served as vice president of the5 Louisiana Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, chairman of the Louisiana6 Business Task Force on Unemployment Compensation, and chairman of the Labor-7 Management Council of LABI; and8 WHEREAS, he left his position at the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and moved9 to Baton Rouge to become vice president of government relations for the Louisiana10 Association of Business and Industry; and11 WHEREAS, in 1989, after three years as vice president and chief lobbyist, Dan12 Juneau was chosen to lead the organization as the second president of the Louisiana13 Association of Business and Industry; and14 WHEREAS, Dan Juneau was an active participant in many of the key legislative15 reform initiatives over the past forty years, including passage of Right to Work,16 unemployment and workers compensation reforms, education accountability, insurance17 availability and affordability, river pilotage reform, civil justice reform, workforce18 development, and the reduction or repeal of business taxes that placed Louisiana at a19 competitive disadvantage with its neighboring states; and 20 WHEREAS, during the twenty-four years he has led the Louisiana business21 community's premier organization, Dan Juneau also served as vice chairman of the Senate22 Committee to Study Tax Exemptions, a member of the Public Affairs Committee of the U.S.23 Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Louisiana Supreme Court Advisory Commission,24 a member of the Louisiana Health Care Redesign Collaborative, and a member of the25 Louisiana Task Force on Workforce Competitiveness; and 26 WHEREAS, he has continuously shown his passion to improve public and alternative27 education by serving as a member of the Commission on Secondary School Redesign, a28 member of the School Finance Review Committee, a member of the School District29 Dialogue State Review Commission, a member of the Blue Ribbon Commission for30 SR NO. 191 SLS 13RS-3508 ORIGINAL Page 3 of 4 Educational Excellence, and a member of the board of directors of Teach for America; and1 WHEREAS, Dan Juneau's strong support for education is particularly shown by his2 service as the chairman of the School Improvement Team at Northdale Magnet Academy3 in Baton Rouge, one of Louisiana's first alternative high schools for at-risk youth; and4 WHEREAS, his peers in positions similar to his as president of a state chamber of5 commerce and manufacturers association have honored him by choosing him to serve on the6 board of directors of the National Association of Manufacturers, as chairman of the Council7 of State Manufacturers Association, and twice as chairman of the Council of State Chambers8 of Commerce; and 9 WHEREAS, Dan Juneau has positioned LABI as a strong force for an improved10 business climate in Louisiana, and he believes that strong, positive, ethical participation in11 legislative and judicial elections plus active involvement in the legislative process is a must12 for businesses to survive and flourish in Louisiana; and13 WHEREAS, he and his wife Charmaine Hebert Juneau, a retired National Board14 Certified instructor at Gonzales Middle School in Ascension Parish, share three children,15 Casey, Josh, and Jacob, and two grandchildren, Braydon and Aurora, with whom they share16 many interests including fishing at the Juneau Camp at Butte LaRose, Louisiana; and17 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize Dan Juneau's commitment and service to18 the state of Louisiana.19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana20 does hereby commend Daniel L. Juneau for his years of service upon his retirement as21 president of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, does hereby recognize his22 forty-year career of very distinguished service to the state of Louisiana, does hereby23 recognize and record for posterity his notable accomplishments and manifold contributions24 to the Louisiana business community, and does hereby extend to Dan Juneau and his family25 best wishes for continued health and happiness and a well-deserved retirement.26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to27 Daniel L.
