SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 200

SENATE. Recognizes Thursday, June 6, 2013, as Zeta Phi Beta Day at the state capitol and
commends the members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
A RESOLUTION1
To recognize Thursday, June 6, 2013, as Zeta Phi Beta Day at the state capitol and to2
commend the members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.3
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority,4
Incorporated, for their outstanding community service and to recognize Thursday, June 6,5
2013, as Zeta Day at the state capitol; and6
WHEREAS, founded at Howard University in Washington D.C., in 1920, Zeta Phi7
Beta Sorority has the distinction of being the first sorority cofounded by African American8
college men of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity desiring sisters representing Finer Womanhood,9
Scholarship, Service, and Sisterhood; and10
WHEREAS, throughout the past ninety-three years, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority has11
expanded internationally to more than one thousand chapters in eight countries; and12
WHEREAS, the state of Louisiana hosts thirty of these chapters, which are located13
on college and university campuses and have active graduate groups in communities14
throughout the state; and15
WHEREAS, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority is action oriented and committed to community16
service and actively contributes to the educational, civic, and social life of Louisiana's17

WHEREAS, Zeta Phi Beta chapters encourage their members to become informed,1
involved, and committed community volunteers in one of their service initiatives, including2
education, family, health, politics, the economy, and the arts; and3
WHEREAS, Louisiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Bernette J. Johnson is a proud4
graduate member of Zeta Phi Beta; and5
WHEREAS, the current program of Zeta Phi Beta is "Building on the Principles of6
Service While Blazing New Paths"; and7
WHEREAS, Zeta Day at the state capitol is part of Zeta Phi Beta's political initiative8
across the country through which members network with legislators to address issues that9
are relevant to their communities.10
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana11
does hereby recognize Thursday, June 6, 2013, as Zeta Phi Beta Day at the Louisiana State12
Capitol and does hereby commend and express enduring appreciation to the members of13
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, for the tremendous service, honor, and pride that they14
bring to their families, friends, communities, the state of Louisiana, and the United States15
of America.16
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Mary17
Breaux Wright, International President of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.18
