Requests the Senate Committee on Commerce, Consumer Protection and International Affairs to study the feasibility of attracting an existing Major League Soccer franchise or expansion team to locate in Louisiana. A RESOLUTION1 To urge and request the Senate Committee on Commerce, Consumer Protection and2 International Affairs to study the feasibility of attracting an existing Major League3 Soccer franchise or expansion team to locate in Louisiana.4 WHEREAS, Major League Soccer is a growing and dynamic professional sports5 association that conducts soccer at its highest level in North America; and6 WHEREAS, Major League Soccer does not currently have any franchises located in7 the southeastern section of the United States; and8 WHEREAS, Louisiana has a thriving and growing youth soccer movement with an9 estimated forty thousand participants on an annual basis; and 10 WHEREAS, Louisiana has a strong tradition of supporting its sports teams; and11 WHEREAS, the placement of an existing Major League Soccer franchise or12 expansion team in Louisiana would create jobs and attract soccer enthusiasts from across the13 nation to Louisiana.14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana15 does hereby urge and request the Senate Committee on Commerce, Consumer Protection and16 International Affairs to study the feasibility of attracting an existing Major League Soccer17 franchise or expansion team to locate in Louisiana.18 SR NO. 202 SLS 13RS-2457 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the committee shall submit a written report of1 its findings together with any recommendations for legislation, to the Senate no later than2 February 1, 2014.3 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Alan Miller.
