Page 1 of 1 Regular Session, 2013 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 29 BY SENATOR DORSEY-COLOMB A RESOLUTION To recognize July 2013 as Sarcoma Awareness Month. WHEREAS, sarcoma is a cancer of connective tissues, such as nerves, muscles, joints, fat, bones, and blood vessels and may arise anywhere in the body; and WHEREAS, more than thirteen thousand people in the United States were diagnosed with sarcoma last year, more than five thousand died, and fifty thousand are struggling with the disease at any one time; and WHEREAS, each year one percent of the cancers diagnosed in adults and fifteen percent of cancers diagnosed in children are sarcoma; and WHEREAS, more than fifty subtypes of sarcoma have been identified; and WHEREAS, the National Cancer Institute recognizes that sarcoma is often misdiagnosed and underreported; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate to set aside a special month to increase awareness of sarcoma, to highlight the need for more research funding relative to sarcoma, and to support individuals with the cancer. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize July 2013 as Sarcoma Awareness Month. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, Inc., Mid South Division. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
