SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 31
BY SENATORS CLAITOR AND WARD 
A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate the Brusly High School Panthers wrestling team on winning
its second consecutive Division III state championship title.
WHEREAS, during the 1977-1978 school year, Coach Phil Bode began training the
first Brusly High School wrestling team by placing horsehair mats on the ground near the
gymnasium; and
WHEREAS, Coach Bode purchased the first wrestling mat for Brusly High School
with his own money; and
WHEREAS, for the past thirty-six years, Brusly High School has enjoyed a rich
tradition of producing one hundred seven individual state champions and twelve team titles;
and
WHEREAS, during the 2012-2013 school year, the Brusly High School Panthers
wrestling team earned the Division III championship title for the second consecutive year
and claimed its ninth state title in ten years; and
WHEREAS, the Panthers distinguished themselves from the rest of the field by
leading by as much as forty points and finishing the meet with a two-day total of two
hundred twenty-two points; and
WHEREAS, teammates Wyatt Lejeune and Trevor Schermer were named state
champions and Baret Sanchez and Koby Mancuso were named state runners-up; and
WHEREAS, the members of the wrestling team performed at the highest level of
athletic excellence throughout the season and each of them deserves recognition for their
vital contributions to the Panthers' winning effort; and
WHEREAS, Coaches Bible, Sutherland and Wilson instilled an ethic of winning and
demonstrated the kind of leadership and motivational skills needed to produce winners both
on and off the mat; and
WHEREAS, the Brusly High School Panthers wrestling team has earned well-
deserved accolades throughout the season for the extraordinary athletic abilities they have
displayed, particularly at the most difficult level of high school competition. SR NO. 31	ENROLLED

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby express its sincere and heartfelt congratulations to the Brusly High School
Panthers wrestling team and coaches on an impressive and memorable winning season, and
on capturing two consecutive Division III state championship titles.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
principal of Brusly High School, Walter Lemoine.
