SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 45

SENATE. Recognizes April 24, 2013, as National Multiple Sclerosis Society Public Policy
Conference Day at the Capitol.
A RESOLUTION1
To recognize April 24, 2013, as National Multiple Sclerosis Society Public Policy2
Conference Day at the Capitol and encourage efforts to inform Louisianians about3
Multiple Sclerosis and efforts that help bring us closer to a world free of MS.4
WHEREAS, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a life-long, unpredictable and often disabling5
disease of the central nervous system; and 6
WHEREAS, MS affects an estimated 2.5 million people worldwide; three-quarters7
of the people with MS are women; most people are diagnosed during the prime-of-life years,8
ages 20-50; and 9
WHEREAS, a community of Louisianians with the National Multiple Sclerosis10
Society are committed to doing something about MS now; they support programs and11
services to enhance the lives of people affected by MS, raise funds and awareness through12
Bike MS and Walk MS events, and invest in research toward a cure for the disease; and13
WHEREAS, today is the 2013 National Multiple Sclerosis Society Public Policy14
Conference in Louisiana, a gathering of MS Activists committed to creating positive change15
through advocacy for Louisianians affected by MS and other chronic conditions; and16
WHEREAS, though much still remains to be done, the work of the National Multiple17
Sclerosis Society and the other organizations working on behalf of those with MS are18 SR NO. 45

helping to create a dynamic movement with the ultimate goal of achieving a world free of1
MS.2
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Louisiana Legislature does3
hereby recognize April 24, 2013, as National Multiple Sclerosis Society Public Policy4
Conference Day at the Capitol and encourage efforts to inform Louisianians about MS and5
efforts that help bring us closer to a world free of MS.6
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the7
National Multiple Sclerosis Society in Louisiana.8
