Commends Episcopal High School Knights boys' soccer team of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on winning the Division III state championship. A RESOLUTION1 To commend the Episcopal High School Knights boys' soccer team upon their Division III2 state championship win.3 WHEREAS, the Episcopal High School Knights boys' soccer team completed a4 sensational season, earning the title of 2012-2013 Division III state champions after5 defeating Isidore Newman High School, the top-seeded team, by a score of two to one, in6 overtime, to win a thrilling state championship game at Tad Gormley Stadium in New7 Orleans, Louisiana, on February 22, 2013; and8 WHEREAS, this historic victory was the first Louisiana High School Athletic9 Association Division III state title for the Knights boys' team and was the culmination of an10 unforgettable season of twenty-two wins, six losses, and one tie (22-6-1); and11 WHEREAS, Coach Chris Stewart was named "Coach of the Year" for Division III12 and the members of the team performed at a superb level of excellence throughout the13 2012-2013 season and playoffs, and each of these great athletes deserves recognition for his14 vital contribution to the winning effort; and15 WHEREAS, this distinguished team of champions includes Dalton Barrick,16 Brannon Bienasz, Trevor Bisson, Alex Castine, Michael Chapman, Adam Clausen,17 Austin Couvillion, Garrett Dahm, Gillon Davis, Prentice Ferachi, Austin Guarisco,18 SR NO. 47 SLS 13RS-690 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 3 Terrell Haughton, Christian Hebert, Christopher Heigle, Carter James, William James,1 Polk Kellam, Erol Knaus, Tamer Knaus, Lance LaMotte, Andrew LeBlanc, Justin Leopard,2 Bailey Macmurdo, Zach Magee, Cody Mitchell, Clement Mubungirwa, A. J. Ostrowe,3 Blaine Perret, Jacob Perret, Noah Ponjuan, Daniel Rieger, Connor Rogstad, Justin Rogstad,4 Matthew Wen, Benjamin White, Ty Williams, Austin Wyatt, and Akbar Zamin; and5 WHEREAS, the Knights team is composed of numerous talented players who6 garnered extraordinary division distinctions such as Austin Couvillion as Overall Most7 Valuable Player, Adam Clausen as Offensive Most Valuable Player, and include those8 members named to the First Team All District; Brannon Bienasz, Adam Clausen,9 Austin Couvillion, William James, Erol Knaus, Cody Mitchell, and Clement Mubungirwa;10 along with Second Team All District members; Carter James, Polk Kellam, Lance LaMotte,11 Zach Magee, and Ty Williams; and12 WHEREAS, the Episcopal High School Knights boys' soccer team have among its13 number several sets of brothers whose inate abilities have contributed to unsurpassed team14 unity and trust; and15 WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved16 without the guidance and skill of head coach Chris Stewart along with the assistance of17 faculty, boosters, and family members who have contributed their time and effort to the18 success of the school's soccer program; and19 WHEREAS, the alumni and fans of Episcopal High School recognize the immense20 pride and distinguished honor that the boys' soccer team brings to its school, community, and21 state.22 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana23 does hereby commend and congratulate the Episcopal High School Knights boys' soccer24 team upon winning the 2012-2013 Division III state championship and does hereby extend25 best wishes to the players, coaches, and all who are involved in this fine athletics program26 as they celebrate their exceptional season and prepare for continued success in the future.27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to28 soccer coach, Chris Stewart, of Episcopal High School.29 30 SR NO. 47 SLS 13RS-690 ORIGINAL Page 3 of 3 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Suzi Montague.
