SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 6
BY SENATOR BROOME 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends the Volunteer Louisiana Commission upon the
celebration of its twentieth anniversary.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the Volunteer Louisiana Commission upon the celebration of its twentieth2
anniversary.3
WHEREAS, service to others is a hallmark of the American character, and central4
to how we meet our challenges; and5
WHEREAS, for twenty years, the Volunteer Louisiana Commission in the office of6
the Lieutenant Governor has promoted and encouraged national service and volunteerism7
as a cost-effective strategy to meet critical community needs; and8
WHEREAS, throughout 2013, the Volunteer Louisiana Commission is celebrating9
the twentieth anniversary of its legislative creation and is featuring signature service and10
celebratory events to highlight volunteerism's impact throughout the state; and11
WHEREAS, since its inception, the Volunteer Louisiana Commission has invested12
more than fifty-five million federal dollars, which has been matched locally with more than13
forty million dollars to deploy 18,889 AmeriCorps members in forty-seven programs,14
serving 6,338,975 hours to meet community needs; and15
WHEREAS, forty-seven percent of all Louisiana citizens are now engaged in service16
to their communities; and17
WHEREAS, the Volunteer Louisiana Commission merits a special measure of18 SR NO. 6

commendation upon the celebration of its tradition of service.1
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana2
does hereby commend the Volunteer Louisiana Commission upon the celebration of its3
twentieth anniversary, does hereby recognize and record for posterity the tremendous pride4
and honor that the commission brings to the state, and does hereby extend best wishes as it5
commemorates this memorable and historic anniversary celebration.6
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to7
Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne and to the chairwoman of the Volunteer Louisiana8
Commission.9
