Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2013 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 6 BY SENATOR BROOME A RESOLUTION To commend the Volunteer Louisiana Commission upon the celebration of its twentieth anniversary. WHEREAS, service to others is a hallmark of the American character, and central to how we meet our challenges; and WHEREAS, for twenty years, the Volunteer Louisiana Commission in the office of the Lieutenant Governor has promoted and encouraged national service and volunteerism as a cost-effective strategy to meet critical community needs; and WHEREAS, throughout 2013, the Volunteer Louisiana Commission is celebrating the twentieth anniversary of its legislative creation and is featuring signature service and celebratory events to highlight volunteerism's impact throughout the state; and WHEREAS, since its inception, the Volunteer Louisiana Commission has invested more than fifty-five million federal dollars, which has been matched locally with more than forty million dollars to deploy 18,889 AmeriCorps members in forty-seven programs, serving 6,338,975 hours to meet community needs; and WHEREAS, forty-seven percent of all Louisiana citizens are now engaged in service to their communities; and WHEREAS, the Volunteer Louisiana Commission merits a special measure of commendation upon the celebration of its tradition of service. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Volunteer Louisiana Commission upon the celebration of its twentieth anniversary, does hereby recognize and record for posterity the tremendous pride and honor that the commission brings to the state, and does hereby extend best wishes as it commemorates this memorable and historic anniversary celebration.
