SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 61
BY SENATOR ADLEY 
CONDOLENCES.  Extends condolences on the death of U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant
Michael Guillory in Afghanistan.
A RESOLUTION1
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana to the2
family of United States Marine Corps Sergeant Michael Guillory upon his death in3
Operation Enduring Freedom.4
WHEREAS, Michael Guillory was a native of Pearl River, Louisiana, graduating5
from Pearl River High School in 2002; and6
WHEREAS, Michael Guillory, guided by his deep love of his country and feeling7
a strong need to serve in his nation's armed forces, enlisted in the United States Marine8
Corps in 2003; and9
WHEREAS, Sergeant Guillory willingly endured the daunting training it takes to10
become a Marine, learning and sharpening his skills as he successfully completed the11
rigorous requirements to become a combat engineer; and12
WHEREAS, Sergeant Guillory served with great dedication with the engineers and13
in 2007, he began to train to transfer to the elite reconnaissance community of the Marine14
Corps; and15
WHEREAS, Sergeant Guillory successfully completed the tough selection and16
training process necessary to become a member of the special operations command and with17
great pride and satisfaction he became a scout of the 1
st

Pendleton, California; and1
WHEREAS, Sergeant Guillory continued to push himself physically and mentally2
as he trained to be a critical skills operator with the Special Operations Battalion of the3
Marine Special Operation Command; and4
WHEREAS, he served the Marine Corps and his country bravely for nine years as5
he completed multiple combat deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan, racking up six6
tours in the war zones; and7
WHEREAS, Sergeant Guillory's unique leadership skills and talents were recognized8
by his superiors and he was rewarded with promotions in rank and his assignments as a team9
leader and as an assistant element leader; and10
WHEREAS, Sergeant Guillory loved being a Marine Special Operator but he was11
also very proud of his work training Afghan forces and his mission of rebuilding Afghan12
villages in Helmand Province as part of establishing a village stability operation with food,13
medicine, and other vital supplies; and14
WHEREAS, Sergeant Guillory was conducting a combat resupply mission on15
December 14, 2012, in a remote area of Helmand Province when the vehicle he was aboard16
overturned and he was mortally wounded; and17
WHEREAS, Sergeant Guillory and his memory will be forever cherished by his18
friends, fellow Marines, and especially his parents, Gina and Michael Guillory Sr, and his19
sisters, Jessica and U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Tiffany Guillory.20
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana21
does hereby extend its deepest and most sincere condolences to the family of U.S. Marine22
Corps Sergeant Michael Guillory for his sacrifice and service to his country and for their23
immeasurable loss.24
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the25
family of U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Michael Guillory.26 SR NO. 61
