Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2013 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 73 BY SENATORS ADLEY, ALARIO, ALLAIN, AMEDEE, APPEL, BROOME, BROWN, BUFFINGTON, CHABERT, CLAI TOR, CORTEZ, CROWE, DONAHUE, DORSEY-COLOMB, ERDEY, GALLOT, GUILLORY, HEITMEIER, JOHNS, KOSTELKA, LAFLEUR, LONG, MARTINY, MILLS, MORRELL, MORRISH , MURRAY, NEVERS, PEACOCK, PERRY, PETERSON, RISER, GARY SMITH, JOHN SMITH, TARVER, THOMPSON, WALSWORTH, WARD AND WHI TE A RESOLUTION To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana to the family of Louisiana Army National Guard Sergeant Michael Norbert Perry Jr. upon his death while in the service of his country. WHEREAS, Sergeant Perry was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, he was a member of the Louisiana Army National Guard and assigned to the 2225 th Multi-Role Bridge Company in Marrero; and WHEREAS, on July 10, 2012, at the age of 38, Sergeant Perry was training in preparation for deployment to Afghanistan with his unit; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Perry was mortally injured in a tragic training accident that occurred as he was readying himself for the overseas combat tour he would soon undertake in support of Operation Enduring Freedom; and WHEREAS, the loss of Sergeant Perry leaves his children, Alexis and Gage, without the love and affection they had always received from their father and without the many lessons he had left to teach them; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Perry will also be deeply missed by his fiancee, Jill Cunningham Marion, with whom he had planned a life together and that now will remain only as a memory of what might have been; and WHEREAS, the death of Sergeant Perry also leaves an empty feeling inside the hearts of his parents, Judith and Michael Sr., as well as his sisters, Jamie and Amanda, and his brother, Jason; and SR NO. 73 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Sergeant Perry was buried July 17, 2012, with full military honors in the Biloxi National Cemetery, surrounded by family, friends, fellow soldiers, and those who knew and loved him; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Perry's awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Humanitarian Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Louisiana Emergency Service Ribbon with three oak leaf clusters, and the Texas Medal of Merit, as well as rifle badges for marksmanship. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend its deepest and most profound condolences to the family of Louisiana Army National Guard Sergeant Michael Norbert Perry upon his death while in the service of his country. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana hereby recognizes the immeasurable loss that Sergeant Perry's loved ones must endure and the total sacrifice he made in the service of his country. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the family of Sergeant Michael Norbert Perry Jr. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
