SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 76
BY SENATOR GALLOT 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Mrs. Doris Mott Robinson on the occasion of her ninety-
fourth birthday.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend and congratulate Mrs. Doris Mott Robinson upon the occasion of her ninety-2
fourth birthday.3
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens of the state of Louisiana have4
learned of the ninety-fourth birthday celebration of Doris Mott Robinson, wife of the late5
legendary Grambling State University football coach Eddie G. Robinson; and6
WHEREAS, Doris Mott was born on May 2, 1919, to John and Lillian Mott in Baton7
Rouge; and8
WHEREAS, upon graduating from McKinley High School in Baton Rouge, she9
attended Southern University from 1936 to 1938, and later graduated from Leland College10
in 1941; and11
WHEREAS, it was in the eighth grade that she met the love of her life, Eddie G.12
Robinson, and they were married on June 24, 1941; and13
WHEREAS, Doris Mott Robinson began her teaching career working in the school14
system of Lincoln Parish at Fellowship Elementary School, Lincoln Elementary School, and15
later taught at Lincoln High School, Ruston High School, and Dubac High School; and16
WHEREAS, she taught English and Social Studies, coached students in speech for17
the Louisiana State Literary Competition, and prepared her students for basic public18 SR NO. 76

speaking activities and real life; and1
WHEREAS, Doris Mott Robinson eventually retired after many years of teaching2
to travel with Coach Robinson and the Grambling Tiger football team; and3
WHEREAS, she has been involved in numerous civic and social entities and is a4
member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and New Rocky Valley Baptist Church; and5
WHEREAS, "the woman next to the man", as she has been lovingly called, was a6
loving wife, great friend, and strong support system for Coach Robinson for sixty-five years;7
and8
WHEREAS, Coach Robinson and Doris reared two children, Lillian Rose and Eddie9
Jr., and over the fifty-seven years of his distinguished career, helped with the development10
of hundreds of students and student-athletes; and11
WHEREAS, she has five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great12
great-grandchild; and13
WHEREAS, blessed with a beautiful soprano voice, she sang professionally for many14
years and is known for her ability to create a moving, artistic conception of a musical15
composition; and16
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,17
and the overall vitality of American society depend upon people like Doris Mott Robinson,18
an extraordinary woman and a true inspiration to all; and19
WHEREAS, on the memorable occasion of her ninety-fourth birthday, it is20
appropriate that sincere and heartfelt congratulations be extended to Doris Mott Robinson21
for her lifetime of outstanding devotion to her family and community.22
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana23
does hereby commend and congratulate Mrs. Doris Mott Robinson upon the occasion of her24
ninety-fourth birthday.25
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution shall be transmitted26
to Mrs. Doris Mott Robinson.27
