SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 76
BY SENATOR GALLOT 
A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Mrs. Doris Mott Robinson upon the occasion of her ninety-
fourth birthday.
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens of the state of Louisiana have
learned of the ninety-fourth birthday celebration of Doris Mott Robinson, wife of the late
legendary Grambling State University football coach Eddie G. Robinson; and
WHEREAS, Doris Mott was born on May 2, 1919, to John and Lillian Mott in Baton
Rouge; and
WHEREAS, upon graduating from McKinley High School in Baton Rouge, she
attended Southern University from 1936 to 1938, and later graduated from Leland College
in 1941; and
WHEREAS, it was in the eighth grade that she met the love of her life, Eddie G.
Robinson, and they were married on June 24, 1941; and
WHEREAS, Doris Mott Robinson began her teaching career working in the school
system of Lincoln Parish at Fellowship Elementary School, Lincoln Elementary School, and
later taught at Lincoln High School, Ruston High School, and Dubac High School; and
WHEREAS, she taught English and Social Studies, coached students in speech for
the Louisiana State Literary Competition, and prepared her students for basic public
speaking activities and real life; and
WHEREAS, Doris Mott Robinson eventually retired after many years of teaching
to travel with Coach Robinson and the Grambling Tiger football team; and
WHEREAS, she has been involved in numerous civic and social entities and is a
member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and New Rocky Valley Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, "the woman next to the man", as she has been lovingly called, was a
loving wife, great friend, and strong support system for Coach Robinson for sixty-five years;

WHEREAS, Coach Robinson and Doris reared two children, Lillian Rose and Eddie
Jr., and over the fifty-seven years of his distinguished career, helped with the development
of hundreds of students and student-athletes; and
WHEREAS, she has five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great
great-grandchild; and
WHEREAS, blessed with a beautiful soprano voice, she sang professionally for many
years and is known for her ability to create a moving, artistic conception of a musical
composition; and
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depend upon people like Doris Mott Robinson,
an extraordinary woman and a true inspiration to all; and
WHEREAS, on the memorable occasion of her ninety-fourth birthday, it is
appropriate that sincere and heartfelt congratulations be extended to Doris Mott Robinson
for her lifetime of outstanding devotion to her family and community.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Mrs. Doris Mott Robinson upon the occasion of her
ninety-fourth birthday.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution shall be transmitted
to Mrs. Doris Mott Robinson.
