SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 78

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Hélène Durand, Vice President of the Association
France-Louisiane Franco-Americanie, on being a good will ambassador of the state of
Louisiana.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Hélène Durand, Vice President of the Association France-Louisiane Franco-2
Americanie, on being a good will ambassador of the state of Louisiana.3
WHEREAS, the state of Louisiana and many of its citizens have strong cultural and4
historical ties to the nation of France; and5
WHEREAS, the Association France-Louisiana Franco-Americanie is based in Paris6
and was created to promote the development of the French language and culture in the state;7
and8
WHEREAS, the association has many chapters throughout France and Louisiana9
with more than one thousand active members; and10
WHEREAS, Ms. Hélène Durand is the current vice president of the association and11
for the past twenty years has been one of the most active officers, devoting thousands of12
hours to helping Louisiana adults and students travel and study in France; and13
WHEREAS, in the 1980s and 1990s she welcomed and housed Louisiana State14
University students every summer in her home in Troyes, in the Champagne region of15
France, and for the past few years, she has also assisted the director of the Cajun Nights16
Festival in Saulieu, France; and17
WHEREAS, in addition, Ms. Durand is well-known to the many Louisiana musicians18 SR NO. 78

who have enjoyed her hospitality over the years; and1
WHEREAS, because of her tireless devotion to strengthening the bonds of kinship,2
culture, history, and friendship between the peoples of the nation of France and the state of3
Louisiana, Ms. Durand has earned her place as a good will ambassador of the state.4
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana5
does hereby commend Ms. Hélène Durand, vice president of the Association France-6
Louisiane Franco-Americanie, on being a good will ambassador of the state of Louisiana.7
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to8
Hélène Durand.9
