Expresses condolences upon the death of Lawrence Zachaire Sr. A RESOLUTION1 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the2 death of Lawrence Zachaire Sr.3 WHEREAS, it is with sincere regret and profound sorrow that the members of the4 Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the death of Lawrence Zachaire Sr.,5 age eighty-seven, of Opelousas, Louisiana, who passed away on March 24, 2013; and6 WHEREAS, Lawrence was a great leader in his family and community who will be7 tremendously missed; and8 WHEREAS, Lawrence was a NAACP member and a life-long advocate for the right9 to vote; and10 WHEREAS, he spearheaded a movement for transportation to be provided for11 students from Opelousas to Baton Rouge in order to allow them to attend Southern12 University and further their academic careers; and 13 WHEREAS, Lawrence was a life time member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and14 a member of the church choir; and15 WHEREAS, he was a member of Council #8-Assembly 7 Knights of St. Peter Claver16 3 rd and 4 th Degree, a member of the St. Landry Triad for the Sheriff's Department, AARP17 member, and a Stewart for Operative Plaster and Cement Mason International Association18 SR NO. 81 SLS 13RS-1122 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 Local 685 for over fifty years; and1 WHEREAS, he was survived by three daughters, Joyce Zachaire Charles, Barbara2 Zachaire, and Beverly Carney; three sons, Lawrence Zachaire Jr., Joseph Lee Zachaire, and3 John Zachaire; one sister, Helen Z. Boutte; nine grandchildren; and eight great-4 grandchildren; and5 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana6 does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Lawrence Zachaire7 Sr. does hereby record for posterity his accomplishments and contributions, and does hereby8 extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that he will forever bring his family,9 friends, community, and the state of Louisiana.10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be transmitted to Joyce11 Zachaire Charles, Barbara Zachaire, Beverly Carney, Lawrence Zachaire Jr., Joseph Lee12 Zachaire, and John Zachaire.13 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Margaret M.
