Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2013 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 81 BY SENATOR GUILLORY A RESOLUTION To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Lawrence Zachaire Sr. WHEREAS, it is with sincere regret and profound sorrow that the members of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the death of Lawrence Zachaire Sr., age eighty-seven, of Opelousas, Louisiana, who passed away on March 24, 2013; and WHEREAS, Lawrence was a great leader in his family and community who will be tremendously missed; and WHEREAS, Lawrence was a NAACP member and a life-long advocate for the right to vote; and WHEREAS, he spearheaded a movement for transportation to be provided for students from Opelousas to Baton Rouge in order to allow them to attend Southern University and further their academic careers; and WHEREAS, Lawrence was a life time member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and a member of the church choir; and WHEREAS, he was a member of Council #8-Assembly 7 Knights of St. Peter Claver 3 rd and 4 th Degree, a member of the St. Landry Triad for the Sheriff's Department, AARP member, and a Stewart for Operative Plaster and Cement Mason International Association Local 685 for over fifty years; and WHEREAS, he was survived by three daughters, Joyce Zachaire Charles, Barbara Zachaire, and Beverly Carney; three sons, Lawrence Zachaire Jr., Joseph Lee Zachaire, and John Zachaire; one sister, Helen Z. Boutte; nine grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren. SR NO. 81 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Lawrence Zachaire Sr., record for posterity his accomplishments and contributions, and extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that he will forever bring his family, friends, community, and the state of Louisiana. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be transmitted to Joyce Zachaire Charles, Barbara Zachaire, Beverly Carney, Lawrence Zachaire Jr., Joseph Lee Zachaire, and John Zachaire.
