Lopinto (HB 106) Act No. 148 Existing law (R.S. 47:507) provides that motor vehicle permanent registration plates be securely fastened to the assigned motor vehicle in a manner to prevent the plate from swinging, and at a height not less than 12 inches from the ground from the bottom of such plate in a place and position to be clearly visible, and shall be maintained free from foreign materials and in a condition to be clearly legible. Also, specifies that any permanent registration license plate assigned to a dump truck or a truck weighing in excess of 6,000 pounds may be attached to the front or the rear of the vehicle. New law redesignates the existing law to R.S. 32:53(A)(2) and (3) and modifies existing law by specifyin g that a truck with a gross weight in excess of 10,000 pounds may attach a permanent registration license plate to the front or rear of the vehicle. New law authorizes placement of a license plate on a rear fender so long as the plate faces to the rear of the vehicle. Effective Aug. 1, 2014. (Amends R.S. 32:53(A); Repeals R.S. 47:507)
