AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 56:643(C), relative to issuance of hunting and fishing licenses; to provide for2
a reduced fee for certain retired members of the U.S. Armed Forces; and to provide3
for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 56:643(C) is hereby enacted to read as follows:6
ยง643. Exemption of persons under age sixteen and certain military personnel from7
licensing requirements; active duty servicemembers service members, their8
spouses, and their children; retired members of the armed services9

C. Upon application to the department and showing identification and proof11
of military service satisfactory to the department, any person who is a retired12
member of the United States Armed Forces, the Louisiana Army National Guard, or13
the Louisiana Air National Guard and was either born in Louisiana or is a bona fide14
resident of Louisiana, shall be issued a retired military hunting and fishing license.15
A fee of five dollars shall be charged for this license, and the license shall be16
available from June first of each calendar year and shall be valid from the date of17
purchase through the following June thirtieth.  This license shall be in lieu of basic18
hunting, big game, bow, primitive firearms, and waterfowl licenses, turkey hunting19
stamps, WMA hunting permits, and the basic and saltwater fishing licenses and must20
be in the possession of the licensee when the licensee is engaged in hunting or21 ENROLLEDHB NO. 1072

fishing activities. Possession of this license shall also authorize the license holder to1
use a crossbow or a bow that is drawn, held, and released by mechanical means.2
Magnified scopes may be used with crossbows.3
