Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE BILL NO. 1074 (Substitute for House Bill No. 672 by Representative Whitney) BY REPRESENTATIVES WHITNEY, COX, HARRIS, HENSGENS, HOFFMANN, KATRINA JACKSON, JAY MORRIS, STOKES, PATRICK WILLIAMS, AND WILLMOTT PHYSICIANS: Provides for a limited exemption to state licensure requirements for visiting physicians AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 37:1291(6), relative to physicians who attend to out-of-state athletic teams; to2 provide for exemptions to certain physician licensure requirements in specified cases;3 to provide for construction; and to provide for related matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. R.S. 37:1291(6) is hereby enacted to read as follows:6 ยง1291. Present law provides enumerated exemptions to requirements for physician licensure and other requirements relative to the practice of medicine as set forth in present law. Proposed law retains present law and adds thereto an exemption for physicians who are licensed to practice medicine in another state or country when attending to the acute care needs of the official traveling party of athletes and staff of an athletic team or organization domiciled in another state or country during or in connection with an athletic contest or event conducted in Louisiana. Proposed law stipulates that the exemption provided therein shall not be construed to allow the performance of any elective procedure by a physician who is not duly licensed to practice medicine in accordance with present law.
