Abstract: Increases the number of Coushatta Indian tribal officers eligible for supplemental pay
from eight to sixteen and deletes the requirement that the Allen Parish sheriff approve
such pay.
Present law provides state supplemental pay of $500 per month to qualified full-time police
officers who have completed one year of service,  are employed full-time by a municipality or
certain tribes, and, if hired after March 31,1986, are certified by the Council on Peace Officers
Standards and Training (P.O.S.T. certified).
Present law limits the number of tribal officers from the Coushatta Tribe of La. eligible for
supplemental pay to eight.  Further requires the sheriff of Allen Parish to approve the
compensation of the Coushatta tribal officers.
Proposed law increases the number of eligible officers for the Coushatta Tribe of La. from eight
to 16.  Further deletes the requirement that the sheriff of Allen Parish approve the compensation
of Coushatta tribal officers.
Effective on July 1, 2014.
