Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE BILL NO. 1101 BY REPRESENTATIVE BROADWATER COURTS/COURT REPORTERS: Provides relative to court reporters AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 37:2557(B), relative to the Board of Examiners of Certified2 Shorthand Reporters; to require the board to provide notice of an investigation; and3 to provide for related matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. R.S. 37:2557(B) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 6 ยง2557. Suspension of certificate; hearings; procedure7 * * *8 B. The Board of Examiners of Certified Shorthand Reporters may upon its9 own motion and shall upon the verified complaint in writing of any person setting10 forth facts which if proved would constitute grounds for refusal to issue or renew,11 or suspension or revocation of any such certificate, investigate the actions of any12 person applying for, holding, or claiming to hold any such certificate, or any person13 practicing court reporting as defined in this Chapter without first having obtained a14 certificate hereunder. At the commencement of any such investigation, notice shall15 be provided to any person subject to the investigation and shall provide the nature16 and subject of the investigation. Present law authorizes the Board of Examiners of Certified Shorthand Reporters, on its own motion or if requested in writing by verified complaint, to investigate the actions of any person applying for, holding, or claiming to hold any certificate, or any person practicing court reporting without first having obtained a certificate. Proposed law retains present law and adds that at the commencement of any such investigation, notice shall be provided to any person subject to the investigation and shall provide the nature and subject of the investigation.
