Abstract: Provides for in place closure of certain oxidation ponds.
Present law requires the secretary of the Department of Environmental Quality to adopt and
promulgate rules and regulations to prevent water pollution.  Proposed law retains present law.
Proposed law requires the adoption and promulgation of regulations providing for the closure of
oxidation ponds, lagoons, or surface impoundments.
Proposed law provides that for political subdivisions located in a parish having a population of
not less than 25,800 and not more than 27,800, such regulations shall have the option to close
oxidation ponds, lagoons, or surface impoundments in place by allowing the treatment of sewage
sludge on site and allowing the treated sewage sludge to remain on site under cover.
