HOLIDAYS:  Authorizes higher education employees to take paid leave on Veterans' Day
to attend certain events
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 1:55(F), relative to legal holidays; to authorize certain employees2
to attend Veterans' Day activities and events with compensation; and to provide for3
related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 1:55(F) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 6
ยง55.  Days of public rest, legal holidays, and half-holidays7

F. Each institution of higher education in the state, through a representative9
appointed by it, shall designate a maximum of fourteen legal holidays per calendar10
year to be observed by all of its employees.  	If the institution does not elect to11
designate Veterans' Day as one of the fourteen legal holidays to be observed, an12
employee shall be allowed to attend activities or events related to Veterans' Day with13
compensation and for no more than four hours, when the designated day for14

Abstract: Authorizes employees of institutions of higher education to attend Veterans' Day

Present law requires each institution of higher education to designate a maximum of 14 legal
holidays per calendar year to be observed by its employees.
Proposed law requires the institution to allow employees to attend events related to Veterans'
Day with compensation for no more than four hours when such activities occur on a
regularly scheduled workday.
