Mack	HB No. 1130
Abstract: Authorizes municipal governing authorities to contract with private collection
agencies for purposes of collecting debt.
Present law requires the clerk of each city court or the marshal, as designated by the judge, to
collect all fines, forfeitures, penalties, and costs, excluding costs to be paid into the city treasury
when the prosecution is on behalf of the city and into the parish treasury to be deposited in the
parish general fund and used as a general expenditure of the parish, in parishes other than
Orleans, when the prosecution is on behalf of the state or parish.
Proposed law retains present law and adds authorization for a municipal governing authority to
contract with a private collection agency for purposes of collecting fines, forfeitures, penalties,
and costs.
