Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE BILL NO. 1181 BY REPRESENTATIVES SHADOIN AND DIXON CIVIL/JURY TRIALS: Provides relative to the jurisdictional limitation of certain city courts AN ACT1 To amend and reenact Code of Civil Procedure Article 4843(H), relative to courts of limited2 jurisdiction; to provide for the jurisdictional amount in dispute in certain city courts;3 to provide for the jurisdictional amount in dispute in the city courts of Alexandria,4 Pineville, Slidell, and Ruston; and to provide for related matters.5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6 Section 1. Code of Civil Procedure Article 4843(H) is hereby amended and7 reenacted to read as follows: 8 Art. 4843. City court jurisdiction; amount in dispute; injunctive actions by state or9 political subdivision10 * * *11 H. Present law provides that in the city courts of Alexandria, Pineville, Slidell, and Ruston, the civil jurisdiction is concurrent with the district court in cases where the amount in dispute, or the value of the property involved, does not exceed the amount provided in Article 1732(1) for purposes of demanding a jury trial, which is $50,000 pursuant to present law. Proposed law sets the jurisdictional amount in dispute at $50,000 and removes the reference to the amount in dispute provided by Article 1732(1). (Amends C.C.P. Art. 4843(H))
