Huval	HB No. 1193
Abstract: Requires a positive record for 6 months relative to the expiration of an applicant's or
licensee's prison sentence.
Present law provides that as a condition for licensing under the La. State Racing Commission, an
applicant or licensee must not have been convicted of a felony under the laws of the U.S., the
state of La., or any other state or country. However, the commission may, at its discretion and
for good cause shown, issue or renew a license when the applicant or licensee has maintained a
good record and honest character from the date of expiration of a sentence.
Proposed law retains present law and adds that the applicant or licensee is to maintain a good
record and honest character for at least 6 months from the expiration of a sentence, prior to the
exercise of the commission's discretionary authority to issue or renew a license.
