Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE BILL NO. 1219 BY REPRESENTATIVE BARROW MTR VEHICLE/DRIVER LIC: Provides for the waiver of any increase in the renewal fee of a driver's license for persons returning from military service AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 32:412.2(A) and to enact R.S. 32:412.2(D), relative to military2 personnel; to provide relative to the renewal of driver's licenses for active duty3 veterans; and to provide for related matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. R.S. 32:412.2(A) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:6 ยง412.2. Military exceptions; Disabled disabled veteran exemption; active duty7 renewal fee exemption8 A. A veteran of service in the United States Armed Forces shall be exempt9 from the payment of fees under this Chapter for the issuance and renewal of a10 driver's license or a special identification card, issued pursuant to R.S. 40:1321, if the11 veteran meets all of the following qualifications:12 * * *13 D. A member of the United States Armed Forces who served in active duty14 shall not accrue any additional fee for the renewal of his driver's license during the15 time of his active duty military service. [R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] Barrow HB No. 1219 Abstract: Exempts military personnel who serve in active duty from the renewal fee for a driver's license. Present law exempts veterans of service in the U.S. Armed Forces from paying driver's license fees if they were honorably discharged, rendered at least 50% disabled, and receive government assistance as a result of their disability. Proposed law exempts active duty personnel from paying renewal driver's license fees and related fees that they accrued during their active duty service in the United States military. Provides that disabled veterans who are exempt from the issuance fee under present law are also exempt from the renewal fee for driver's licenses. (Amends R.S. 32:412.2(A); Adds R.S. 32:412.2(D))
