SEIZURES/SALES:  Provides relative to the general exemptions of certain property from
seizure
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 13:3881(A)(4)(c) and to repeal R.S. 13:3881(A)(2)(e), relative2
to exemptions from seizure; to provide a general exemption from seizure for all3
firearms and firearm accessories; to repeal the exemption of one firearm of a certain4
value; and to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1. R.S. 13:3881(A)(4)(c) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as7
follows: 8
ยง3881.  General exemptions from seizure9
A. The following income or property of a debtor is exempt from seizure10
under any writ, mandate, or process whatsoever, except as otherwise herein11
provided:12

(c) His arms and All of his firearms and firearm accessories which may be16
used for any purpose, and his military accoutrements.17

Abstract: Exempts from seizure all firearms and firearm accessories owned by a debtor.
Present law provides general exemptions from seizure under any writ, mandate, or process
for specified income or property of a debtor.
Present law includes the debtor's arms and military accoutrements in the list of properties
exempt from seizure.
Proposed law specifies that all of the debtor's firearms and accessories to those firearms are
exempt from seizure.
Present law provides an exemption from seizure of one firearm with a maximum value of
$500.
Proposed law repeals present law.
