Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE BILL NO. 145 BY REPRESENTATIVE THOMPSON SEIZURES/SALES: Provides relative to the general exemptions of certain property from seizure AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 13:3881(A)(4)(c), to enact R.S. 13:3881(A)(4)(g), and to repeal2 R.S. 13:3881(A)(2)(e), relative to exemptions from seizure; to provide a general3 exemption from seizure for all firearms and firearm accessories not to exceed a4 certain value; to repeal the exemption of one firearm of a certain value necessary for5 the exercise of a trade, calling, or profession; and to provide for related matters.6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7 Section 1. R.S. 13:3881(A)(4)(c) is hereby amended and reenacted and R.S.8 13:3881(A)(4)(g) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 9 ยง3881. General exemptions from seizure10 A. Present law provides general exemptions from seizure under any writ, mandate, or process for specified income or property of a debtor. Present law includes the debtor's arms and military accoutrements in the list of properties exempt from seizure. Proposed law specifies that all of the debtor's firearms, arms and ammunition, and accessories thereto, not exceeding a total maximum value of $2,500, are exempt from seizure. Present law provides an exemption from seizure of one firearm necessary for the exercise of a trade, calling, or profession with a maximum value of $500. Proposed law repeals present law.
