COURTS: Provides for a statewide increase in court costs in city, parish, district, appellate,
and supreme courts
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 13:126.1, 352.1, 841.4, 1213.3, 1912, 2157.1, 2500.5, 2520, and 2565, relative2
to additional court costs or fees; to provide for additional fees or costs on writs and3
appeals filed with the supreme court and all courts of appeal; to provide for4
additional court costs or fees in all district courts, the New Orleans Civil District5
Court, all city and municipal courts, the city courts of New Orleans, the municipal6
court of New Orleans, the traffic court of New Orleans, and all parish courts; to7
provide for the collection, disposition, and use of fees; and to provide for related8
matters.9
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:10
Section 1. R.S. 13:126.1, 352.1, 841.4, 1213.3, 1912, 2157.1, 2500.5, 2520, and11
2565 are hereby enacted to read as follows:12
§126.1.  Additional fees; Judicial College13
A. In addition to all other fees or costs provided for by law, the clerk of the14
supreme court shall be entitled to collect fifty cents for the initial filing in all civil15
cases.  This fee shall not include any writs or appeals filed in juvenile and family16
cases.17
B. All fees collected pursuant to Subsection A of this Section shall be18

Court to defray the costs associated with the Judicial College's general growth and1
program improvement strategies.2

§352.1.  Additional fees; Judicial College4
A. In addition to all other fees or costs provided for by law, the clerks of all5
of the courts of appeal shall charge and collect fifty cents for the initial filing in a6
record of appeal or an application for writs in all civil matters.  This fee shall not7
apply to any writs or appeals filed in juvenile and family cases.8
B. All fees collected pursuant to Subsection A of this Section shall be9
deposited into a special account and transmitted monthly to the Louisiana Supreme10
Court to defray the costs associated with the Judicial College's general growth and11
program improvement strategies.12

§841.4.  Additional court costs in civil and traffic matters; Judicial College14
A. In addition to any other fees or costs imposed or authorized to be imposed15
and collected, the clerk of court of each district court shall demand and receive from16
each party liable for court costs the additional sum of fifty cents for the initial filing17
in all civil and traffic matters. This fee shall not apply to juvenile and family cases.18
B. All fees collected pursuant to Subsection A of this Section shall be19
deposited into a special account and transmitted monthly to the Louisiana Supreme20
Court to defray the costs associated with the Judicial College's general growth and21
program improvement strategies.22

§1213.3.  Additional court costs in civil and traffic matters; Judicial College24

demand and receive from each party liable for court costs the additional sum of fifty27
cents for the initial filing in all civil and traffic matters. This fee shall not apply to28

§2520.  Additional court costs in traffic matters; Judicial College8
A. In all prosecutions in the Traffic Court of New Orleans, including all9
traffic violations other than parking, there shall be taxed as costs against every10
defendant, who is convicted after trial or plea of guilty or nolo contendere or who11
forfeits his bond, the sum of fifty cents, which shall be in addition to all other fines,12
costs, or forfeitures lawfully imposed.13
B. All fees collected pursuant to Subsection A of this Section shall be14
deposited into a special account and transmitted monthly to the Louisiana Supreme15
Court to defray the costs associated with the Judicial College's general growth and16
program improvement strategies.17

Proposed law requires an additional court cost or fee of 50 cents to be collected for the initial
filing in all writs or appeals filed in the La. Supreme Court and all courts of appeals relative
to civil matters and further provides that the additional cost shall not apply to juvenile or
family cases.
Proposed law requires for an additional court cost or fee of 50 cents to be collected for the
initial filing in all civil and traffic matters by the clerks of the following courts: all district
courts, city and municipal courts, the city courts of New Orleans, the municipal court of New
Orleans, the traffic court of New Orleans, and all parish courts.
Proposed law requires each court to create a special account to deposit all collected fees and
to transmit fees monthly to the La. Supreme Court to defray the costs associated with the
Judicial College's general growth and program improvement strategies.
