Broadwater (HB 244) Act No. 324 Existing law provides with respect to the authority of a postsecondary education management board to grant leases of immovable property under its supervision and management. New law provides that if property at a public postsecondary education institution is leased to a nonprofit corporation or association for the purpose of holding a fundraising event, the lease may authorize and provide for the auction and sale of firearms at the event. Further provides that any such lease shall include at a minimum the following conditions: (1)The firearms to be auctioned are exhibited in a static display. (2)Campus security is present at the event. (3)The event shall be held indoors. (4)The firearms to be auctioned are equipped with a safety lock or other safety feature that renders the firearm nonoperational. Existing law provides that carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon at a school-sponsored function or in a firearm-free zone is unlawful. Existing law provides for certain exceptions. New law adds an event held pursuant to new law to list of exceptions. Effective Aug. 1, 2014. (Amends R.S. 14.95.2(C)(3); Adds R.S. 17:3361.1)
