AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 40:1379.3(W), relative to concealed handgun permits; to provide for reduced2
fees for active duty members, reserve members, and veterans of the armed forces of3
the United States; to provide for definitions; to provide for an effective date;  and4
to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1.  R.S. 40:1379.3(W) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7
ยง1379.3. Statewide permits for concealed handguns; application procedures;8

W.(1)  Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, an active duty11
member, reserve member, or veteran of the armed forces of the United States shall12
pay one half of the annual fee provided for in Paragraph (H)(2) of this Section for a13
five-year permit, or if applying for a lifetime concealed handgun permit, he shall14
prepay that fee for a total of ten years at the time the application for the lifetime15
concealed handgun permit is made.16
(2) For the purposes of this Subsection,"veteran" shall mean any honorably17
discharged veteran of the armed forces of the United States including reserved18
components of the armed forces, the Army National Guard, the Air National Guard,19
the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, and any other category of20
persons designated by the president in time of war or emergency.21 ENROLLEDHB NO. 280

Section 2.  This Act shall become effective on July 4, 2014; if vetoed by the1
governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become effective on2
July 4, 2014, or on the day following such approval by the legislature, whichever is later.3
