Provides reduced fees for concealed handgun permits for active duty members, reserve members, and veterans of U.S. armed forces DIGEST Present law provides for the issuance of concealed handgun permits and establishes qualifications for the issuance of a permit. Provides that the term of a concealed handgun permit is five years and the fee for the issuance of the permit is $25 per year for a total fee of $125. Proposed law retains present law for non-military. Proposed law provides for a reduced annual fee of $12.50 per year for a total fee of $62.50 for active duty members, reserve members, or veterans of the United States armed forces. Present law further provides for the issuance of a lifetime concealed handgun permit to La. residents who meet the qualifications for the issuance of a concealed handgun permit. Present law provides that the term of the permit shall be for the life of the permit holder, and provides that an applicant for the permit shall prepay present law fees for a total of 20 years at the time the application is made. If the applicant is 65 years of age or older, the present law fee shall be prepaid for a total of 10 years. Proposed law retains present law and adds that the permit fee for an active duty member, reserve member, or veteran of the United States armed forces shall be prepaid for a total of 10 years. Proposed law defines "veteran" as any honorably discharged veteran of the armed forces of the United States including reserved components of the armed forces, the Army National Guard, the Air National Guard, the commissioned corps of the Public Health Service, and any other category of persons designated by the president in time of war or emergency.
