ACT No. 789 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE BILL NO. 294 BY REPRESENTATIVE STUART BISHOP AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 40:4.9(A)(1)(a) and (B), relative to certain food products2 prepared in the home for public consumption; to provide for application of the state3 Sanitary Code; to provide for preparation of cane syrup in the traditional manner for4 sale; and to provide for related matters.5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6 Section 1. R.S. 40:4.9(A)(1)(a) and (B) are hereby amended and reenacted to read7 as follows: 8 ยง4.9. Jellies, preserves, jams, honey, honeycomb products, cane syrup, cakes, and9 cookies; preparation in home for public consumption10 A.(1)(a) No provision of the state Sanitary Code or any provision of any11 other law or regulation that requires any equipment, design, construction, utensils,12 supplies, preparation, or services shall apply to the preparation of jellies, preserves,13 jams, honey, honeycomb products, cane syrup, cakes, and or cookies in the home for14 sale. For purposes of this Section, with respect to preparation of cane syrup, "the15 home" shall mean, in addition to a dwelling, an open-sided structure on private16 property that shelters a cast iron kettle, evaporator, or other equipment for preparing17 cane syrup in the traditional manner.
