BY REPRESENTATIVE HENSGENS
MTR VEHICLE/TRUCK REGS: Provides with respect to overhang for trucks and trailers
hauling heavy equipment
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 32:386.1, relative to blanket oversize yearly permits; to provide2
for an increase to the overhang of trucks and trailers hauling loads; and to provide3
for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 32:386.1 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:6
ยง386.1.  Blanket oversize yearly permit; fees7
Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the Department8
of Transportation and Development shall establish a blanket oversize yearly permit9
for vehicles the width of which does not exceed twelve feet, the height of which does10
not exceed fourteen feet and four inches, a length not to exceed ninety feet, and the11
front and rear overhang of which does not exceed twenty-five feet. The fee for this12
yearly permit shall be five hundred dollars. The secretary shall promulgate rules and13
regulations to provide for the implementation of this Section.14

Present law provides for oversize dimensions for vehicles not to exceed 12 feet in width, 14
feet and 4 inches in height, 90 feet in length, and an overhang of 25 feet.
Proposed law retains present law, but clarifies the oversize dimensions of a front and rear
overhang which is not to exceed 25 feet.
