MTR VEHICLE/LICEN PLATES: Creates the "U.S. Army Ranger" military honor license
plate
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 47:490.26, relative to military honor license plates; to provide for the2
establishment of a military honor license plate for the United States Army Rangers;3
to require the secretary to promulgate rules and regulations relative to the creation4
and implementation of this military honor license plate; to provide for the creation,5
issuance, and design of such plates; and to provide for related matters.6
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7
Section 1. R.S. 47:490.26 is hereby enacted to read as follows:8
ยง490.26. Military honor license plates; "U.S. Army Ranger"9
A. The secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall10
establish a military honor license plate to be known as the "U.S. Army Ranger" plate.11
B. Upon application of a United States Army Ranger member, the secretary12
of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall issue a military honor13
license plate to be used in lieu of a regular motor vehicle registration plate. The14
license plate shall be restricted to use on passenger cars, pickup trucks, recreational15
vehicles, motorcycles, and vans. The "U.S. Army Ranger" plate  shall bear a16
likeness of the United States Army Ranger logo centered on the left side of the17
license plate and the words "U.S. Army Ranger" centered on the bottom of the plate18
under the license plate number.  The colors of the plate shall be black and gold.19 HLS 14RS-906	ORIGINAL

C. The fee for the license plate shall be the standard motor vehicle1
registration license fee provided for in R.S. 47:463.2
D. The secretary shall adopt rules and regulations to implement the3
provisions of this Section, including but not limited to rules governing the transfer4
of license plates from one vehicle to another and the disposition of such license5
plates.6
E.(1) Any applicant who qualifies for the military honor license plate7
authorized by this Section may be issued a plate for each vehicle registered in the8
applicant's name.9
(2) Except as otherwise provided in this Paragraph, each military honor10
license plate issued pursuant to this Section shall be returned to the secretary upon11
the death of the person to whom the plate was issued.  A surviving spouse of a12
person to whom a license plate was issued pursuant to this Section may retain a13
license plate issued pursuant to this Section, provided the surviving spouse has not14
remarried and provided the surviving spouse applies to the secretary for a transfer15
of the license plate to the surviving spouse. A military honor license plate16
transferred pursuant to this Paragraph to a surviving spouse shall be returned to the17
secretary upon the death or remarriage of the surviving spouse.18

Proposed law provides that the fee is the regular motor vehicle license fee and requires the

secretary upon the death of the person to whom it was issued.  Specifies that a surviving
spouse may retain the military license plate, provided the surviving spouse has not remarried
and provided the surviving spouse applies for a transfer. Requires the transferred license
plate be returned to the secretary upon the death or remarriage of the surviving spouse.
