Lopinto	HB No. 326
Abstract: Provides relative to the district attorney's participation in parole hearings and to
provide notice to the district attorney of such hearings.
Present law requires the committee on parole to provide written notification to the following
persons at least seven days prior to the release of any parolees that reside within the jurisdiction
of the agency they represent:  chief of police, sheriff, district attorney for the parish where the
parolee resides, and the district attorney for the parish where the parolee was convicted.
Proposed law retains present law and provides that in addition to this notice, the committee on
parole shall provide written notification to the district attorney for the parish where the offender
was convicted at least 30 days prior to the parole hearing date.  
Proposed law further authorizes the district attorney of the parish where the offender was
convicted to present evidence and witness testimony directly, to cross examine witnesses
presented by or on behalf of the offender, and to rebut evidence presented by or on behalf of the
offender.
