Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE BILL NO. 414 BY REPRESENTATIVE HAZEL CRIMINAL/PROCEDURE: Amends responsive verdicts for theft and attempted theft AN ACT1 To amend and reenact Code of Criminal Procedure Article 814(A)(26) and (27), relative to2 responsive verdicts; to provide changes in responsive verdicts for theft and attempted3 theft; and to provide for related matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. Code of Criminal Procedure Article 814(A)(26) and (27) are hereby6 amended and reenacted to read as follows: 7 Art. 814. Responsive verdicts; in particular8 A. The only responsive verdicts which may be rendered when the indictment9 charges the following offenses are:10 * * *11 26. Present law provides that the following are responsive verdicts for theft and attempted theft: guilty of theft or attempted theft of property having a value in excess of $500, property having a value of less than $500 but more than $300, and property having a value of less than $300. Proposed law changes present law amounts to be consistent with the crime of theft (R.S. 14:67) as follows: guilty of theft or attempted theft of property in excess of $1,500, property having a value of less than $1,500 and more than $500, and property having a value of less than $500.
