Abstract: Exempts Mandeville from laws governing various aspects of employment of
municipal police, including compensation, leave, and hours.
Present law governs several aspects of employment in municipal police departments in
municipalities having a population of not less than 12,000 and not more than 250,000, including
the following:
(1)Setting minimum salaries for officers at various ranks.  Present law also sets minimum
salaries for police officers in municipalities with a population of not less than 7,000 and
not more than 12,000.
(2)Setting maximum weekly work hours and providing relative to compensation and
compensatory time required for overtime worked.
(3)Providing for the annual leave and sick leave to which officers are entitled.
(4)Providing for holidays and compensation for work on holidays.
Proposed law provides that present law does not apply to Mandeville.
Proposed law provides that proposed law is to be given retroactive and prospective effect.
