RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGISTS: Provides relative to licensed radiologic technologists
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 37:3200(9), 3205(B), 3208(B), 3209, 3210(C) and (D), 3211,2
and 3218, relative to radiologic technologists; to amend the definition of "radiologic3
technologist"; to provide for meetings of the Louisiana Radiologic Technology4
Board of Examiners; to provide for the qualification of applicants for licensure; to5
require a certification examination; to require payment of fees prior to licensure; to6
authorize the board to promulgate a fee schedule; to make technical changes; and to7
provide for related matters.8
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:9
Section 1. R.S. 37:3200(9), 3205(B), 3208(B), 3209, 3210(C) and (D), 3211, and10
3218 are hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:11
§3200. Definitions12
As used in this Chapter:13

(9) "Radiologic technologist" means any person who is a radiographer, a15
radiation therapy technologist, a fusion technologist, or a nuclear medicine16
technologist licensed under this Chapter who under the direction and supervision of17
a licensed practitioner applies radiation to humans upon prescription of a licensed18
practitioner.19

B. The board, for administrative purposes, shall meet in Baton Rouge,1
Louisiana at a time and place to be fixed by the board at least every three months and2
at such other times as may be necessary. 3

§3208. Qualifications of applicants5

B. Each applicant for a license as a radiologic technologist shall have7
successfully completed a course of study in radiography, radiation therapy8
technology, fusion technology, or nuclear medicine technology or fusion technology9
approved by the board in accordance with standards promulgated by the board.10
§3209. Examination11
A. Each applicant for licensure shall be required to pass a license12
certification examination designated and approved by the board.13
B. The board shall hold an examination at least every six months at such14
times and in such localities within the state of Louisiana as the board may consider15
necessary and appropriate.16
C. An applicant who fails to pass the examination may reapply for the17
examination provided the applicant complies with the regulations established by the18
board.19
D. Each application for examination for licensure shall be accompanied by20
the fee prescribed by the board.21
§3210. Examination; persons exempt 22

C. Upon application and payment for examination for initial licensure, the24
board may issue a working permit to any graduate of an approved school who meets25
the qualifications for licensure as provided in R.S. 37:3208 pending results of the26
first licensing certification examination scheduled by the board following the27

D. Upon application and payment for licensure, the board may issue a1
temporary permit to any person who holds a certificate from the American Registry2
of Radiologic Technologists, the American Society of Clinical Pathologists3
Pathology, (NM) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board issued on4
the basis of an examination satisfactory to the board, provided that standards of the5
issuing body are at least as stringent as those established by the board. This permit6
shall be valid for a period not to exceed ninety days. 7
§3211. Licensure 8
The board shall issue a license to and authorize the use of the title "Licensed9
Radiologic Technologist" by each applicant who has successfully passed the board10
certification examination or has otherwise been qualified under the provisions of this11
Chapter and authorize the use of the title "Licensed Radiologic Technologist" and12
has paid all fees required by this Chapter.13

§3218. Fees15
A. Fees to be paid under this Chapter shall be as follows:16
(1)Examination and initial license fee...................$50.0017
(2)Duplicate license................................25.0018
(3)Renewal of license...............................50.0019
(4)Temporary working permits ........................10.0020
The board shall promulgate, in accordance with the Administrative Procedure21
Act, a reasonable fee schedule for the issuance, renewal, or reinstatement of any22
license or permit, for administration of examinations for licensure, or for any other23
administrative function provided for in this Chapter. The fee schedule may be24
modified from time to time as deemed necessary by the board.25
B. All fees collected pursuant to the provisions of this Section shall be paid26
to the secretary-treasurer of the board and disbursed for the purpose of administering27

Present law defines "radiologic technologist" as any person who is a radiographer, a
radiation therapy technologist, or a nuclear medicine technologist licensed under present law
who under the direction and supervision of a licensed practitioner applies radiation to
humans upon prescription of a licensed practitioner.
Proposed law retains present law but adds a fusion technologist to the list of occupations that
fall under the definition of "radiologic technologist".
Present law requires the La. Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners (board), for
administrative purposes, to meet in Baton Rouge, La. at least every three months and at such
other times as may be necessary.
Proposed law changes the meeting location from Baton Rouge to a time and place to be fixed
by the board.
Present law requires each applicant for licensure as a radiologic technologist to have
successfully completed a course of study in radiography, radiation therapy technology, or
nuclear medicine technology or fusion technology approved by the board in accordance with
standards promulgated by the board.
Proposed law retains present law but makes a technical change.
Present law requires each applicant for licensure to pass a license examination designated
and approved by the board.
Proposed law changes the required examination from a license examination to a certification
examination.
Present law requires the board to hold an examination at least every six months at such times

valid for a period not to exceed 90 days, to any person who holds a certificate from the
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, the American Society of Clinical
Pathology, (NM) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board issued on the
basis of an examination satisfactory to the board, provided that standards of the issuing body
are at least as stringent as those established by the board.
Proposed law retains present law but adds the requirement that the applicant pay the
applicable fees for licensure prior to the issuance of the temporary permit.
Present law requires the board to issue a license to each applicant who has successfully
passed the board examination or has otherwise been qualified under the provisions of present
law and to authorize the use of the title "Licensed Radiologic Technologist".
Proposed law retains present law but requires all fees to be paid by the applicant prior to the
issuance of the license and makes technical changes.
Present law provides that fees to be paid under present law shall be as follows:

a reasonable fee schedule for the issuance, renewal, or reinstatement of any license or

function provided for in proposed law. Present law authorizes the fee schedule to be
modified from time to time as deemed necessary by the board.
Present law requires all fees collected to be paid to the secretary-treasurer of the board and
disbursed for the purpose of administering present law.
