HOUSE BILL NO. 610

AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 37:3200(9), 3205(B), 3208(B), 3209, 3210(C) and (D), 3211,2
and 3218, relative to radiologic technologists; to amend the definition of "radiologic3
technologist"; to provide for meetings of the Louisiana Radiologic Technology4
Board of Examiners; to provide for the qualification of applicants for licensure; to5
require a certification examination; to require payment of fees prior to licensure; to6
authorize the board to promulgate a fee schedule; to make technical changes; and to7
provide for related matters.8
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:9
Section 1. R.S. 37:3200(9), 3205(B), 3208(B), 3209, 3210(C) and (D), 3211, and10
3218 are hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:11
§3200.  Definitions12
As used in this Chapter:13

(9) "Radiologic technologist" means any person who is a radiographer, a15
radiation therapy technologist, a fusion technologist, or a nuclear medicine16
technologist licensed under this Chapter who under the direction and supervision of17
a licensed practitioner applies radiation to humans upon prescription of a licensed18
practitioner.19

§3205.  Meetings; quorum 1

B. The board, for administrative purposes, shall meet in Baton Rouge,3
Louisiana at a time and place to be fixed by the board at least every three months and4
at such other times as may be necessary.  5

§3208.  Qualifications of applicants7

B. Each applicant for a license as a radiologic technologist shall have9
successfully completed a course of study in radiography, radiation therapy10
technology, fusion technology, or nuclear medicine technology or fusion technology11
approved by the board in accordance with standards promulgated by the board.12
§3209.  Examination13
A. Each applicant for licensure shall be required to pass a license14
certification examination designated and approved by the board.15
B.  The board shall hold an examination at least every six months at such16
times and in such localities within the state of Louisiana as the board may consider17
necessary and appropriate.18
C. An applicant who fails to pass the examination may reapply for the19
examination provided the applicant complies with the regulations established by the20
board.21
D. Each application for examination for licensure shall be accompanied by22
the fee prescribed by the board.23
§3210.  Examination; persons exempt 24

C. Upon application and payment for examination for initial licensure, the26
board may issue a working permit to any graduate of an approved school who meets27
the qualifications for licensure as provided in R.S. 37:3208 pending results of the28
first licensing certification examination scheduled by the board following the29

D. Upon application and payment for licensure, the board may issue a1
temporary permit to any person who holds a certificate from the American Registry2
of Radiologic Technologists, the American Society of Clinical Pathologists3
Pathology, (NM) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board issued on4
the basis of an examination satisfactory to the board, provided that standards of the5
issuing body are at least as stringent as those established by the board. This permit6
shall be valid for a period not to exceed ninety days.  7
§3211.  Licensure 8
The board shall issue a license to and authorize the use of the title "Licensed9
Radiologic Technologist" by each applicant who has successfully passed the board10
certification examination or has otherwise been qualified under the provisions of this11
Chapter and authorize the use of the title "Licensed Radiologic Technologist" and12
has paid all fees required by this Chapter.13

§3218.  Fees15
A.  Fees to be paid under this Chapter shall be as follows:16
(1)Examination and initial license fee...................$50.0017
(2)Duplicate license................................25.0018
(3)Renewal of license...............................50.0019
(4)Temporary working permits ........................10.0020
The board shall promulgate, in accordance with the Administrative Procedure21
Act, a reasonable fee schedule for the issuance, renewal, or reinstatement of any22
license or permit, for administration of examinations for licensure, or for any other23
administrative function provided for in this Chapter. The fee schedule may be24
modified from time to time as deemed necessary by the board.25
B. All fees collected pursuant to the provisions of this Section shall be paid26
to the secretary-treasurer of the board and disbursed for the purpose of administering27
