EVIDENCE.  Provides relative to expert testimony
DIGEST
Present law authorizes a witness qualified as an expert to testify if his specialized knowledge
will assist the trier of fact to understand the evidence or determine a fact in issue.
Proposed law retains present law and codifies existing jurisprudence requiring an expert's
opinion to have a reliable basis.
Proposed law provides that no change in law or result in a ruling on evidence admissibility
shall be presumed or is intended by the Legislature of Louisiana by the passage of proposed
law.

Summary of Amendments Adopted by Senate
Committee Amendments Proposed by Senate Committee on Judiciary A to the
engrossed bill
1. Removes the phrase "all of the following apply".
2. Adds a new section with language providing that no change in law or result
in a ruling on evidence admissibility shall be presumed or is intended by the
Legislature of Louisiana by the passage of the proposed Act.
