Abramson (HB 624) Act No. 630 Existing law authorizes a witness qualified as an expert to testify if his specialized knowledge will assist the trier of fact to understand the evidence or determine a fact in issue. New law retains existing law and codifies existing jurisprudence requiring an expert's opinion to have a reliable basis. New law provides that no change in law or result in a ruling on evidence admissibility shall be presumed or is intended by the Legislature of La. by the passage of new law. Effective Aug. 1, 2014.
