GERMAIN PUBLIC CONTRACTS: Authorizes the preference for the purchase of Louisiana products in public bid law to apply to purchases of fire fighting or rescue equipment AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 38:2251(I), relative to public contracts; to provide relative to the2 preference for purchasing certain Louisiana products; to provide for the applicability3 of the preference for the purchase of certain Louisiana products; and to provide for4 related matters.5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6 Section 1. R.S. 38:2251(I) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 7 ยง2251. Preference for products produced or manufactured in Louisiana; exceptions8 * * *9 I. Present law requires procurement officers and purchasing agents who procure or purchase certain products such as meat, seafood, produce, paper and paper products to procure or purchase Louisiana products which are manufactured, processed, produced, or assembled in this state under certain circumstances. Present law provides that the preference for the purchase of Louisiana products shall not apply to the procurement or purchase of fire fighting or rescue equipment. Proposed law changes the present law prohibition of the applicability of the preference for the purchase of Louisiana products relative to the purchase of fire fighting or rescue equipment to authorizing the provisions of present law to apply to such purchases.
