Existing law creates the Workers' Compensation Advisory Council, which is made up of 17
members appointed by the governor and who serve at the pleasure of the governor.
New law requires that the members of the council be domiciled in La.
New law provides that to the extent practicable, the nominating organization or entity shall
strive for diversity in its appointments to the council, taking into consideration sex, race,
ethnicity, and geography.
Existing law requires that each appointment must be approved by the Senate.
Existing law specifies from which industries and associations the members shall be chosen.
Existing law requires that the council meet and make recommendations to the governor and
legislature on the implementation of workers' compensation laws.
New law requires that each of the five members of the general public be from a different
Public Service Commission district.
New law provides that the changes in the makeup of the council shall occur by attrition.
Effective Aug. 1, 2014.
