Abstract: Provides that members of the Lafayette Parish School Board are elected at the
gubernatorial elections instead of the congressional elections.
Present law (R.S. 17:52) provides that members of parish school boards shall be elected at the
congressional elections.
Proposed law provides that members of the Lafayette Parish School Board shall be elected at the
gubernatorial elections.  Provides that the members of the school board shall serve four-year
terms beginning January first following their election.
Proposed law provides that to facilitate moving the election of members of the Lafayette Parish
School Board from the congressional elections to the gubernatorial elections, the members of the
school board elected at the congressional elections in 2014 shall serve five- year terms.  Provides
that proposed law shall apply to the election of members who serve terms subsequent to the
terms of the members elected in 2014.
Effective in part Jan. 1, 2019.
